Masau Lodge
a private, family-run photographic and fishing camp on the banks of the Zambezi River
For over 20 years, Masau has been operated by the Meredith family – tried and true Zimbabweans with a passion for the Zambezi River, fishing, and wildlife. It has become a second home to the Merediths, and each guest is treated as part of the family.
Set in the northernmost corner of Zimbabwe, Masau offers visitors a truly remote and wild experience. From the main lodge, guests can see the Zambian mountains across the river and off the east, the peaks of the Mozambique mountain range surrounding Lake Cahora Bassa.
Calls of the resident birds and hippos become the gentle soundtrack of your stay as Masau Lodge. Elephant and buffalo are often seen wondering behind camp. With very few lodges in this area, our guests have the privilege of experiencing this remarkable section of the Lower Zambezi River all to themselves.
Masau Lodge is located on the Chitsere Conservancy founded in 2017. This 85 sq kilometre concession was established with the sole purpose of protecting and preserving the wildlife of the region. It has now become a safe haven to many species of wildlife, some of which have not been seen in the area for decades. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, sable, roan, kudu, waterbuck, impala, bushbuck, warthog, wild pigs, duiker, and steenbok all call this beautiful and untouched conservancy their home.
Our intimate camp is divided into two separate lodges: Masau Lodge and Pels Lodge. Masau sleeps a total of 8 guests in 2 en-suite double chalets and 1 family chalet, all facing the Zambezi River.
For groups larger than 8, guests can utilize Masau’s sister camp – Pels Lodge.
Pels is connected to Masau, but can operate as its own independent lodge or take any overflow from Masau. Pels is comprised of 4 en suite chalets, accommodating a total of 8 guests.
Visitors are looked after by our lodge manager, hard-working and friendly waiters, and a seasoned chef to prepare all meals whether on a self-catering, full board, or fully inclusive basis.
A laundry service is available for all our guests, and the camp’s industrial ice machine ensures all-day trips are packed with ice-cold cooler boxes.
